I felt as if I was in a dream, as if time itself was at a standstill, a spectacular sight to see. If you have not yet seen it, The Rain Room, at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art is something to add to your To Do List.

Different than many other exhibitions at the MOMA, the Rain Room requires interaction from the audience as well as encourages photography. The exhibit is inside a dark-box-shaped building next to the museum. Inside the room resides a platform. Above the platform, rain falls from the ceiling. As a person steps onto the platform, their motion is detected, and water does not fall wherever they may stand. People on the platform appear as if they are getting soaked, however, they remain completely dry. It is interesting to see people whip out their iPads, and other electronic devices in the midst of pouring down rain.

I paid a visit to the MOMA this past weekend. Unwilling to wait in line to walk through the rain, I was able to walk around the boundary of the room (you can choose to walk through the rain or around the room). Although I would have liked to walk through the rain, viewing it from the outskirts was just as satisfying. This exhibit closes on July 28th so there is only a limited amount of time left to see it. Do not let the long lines dishearten you. This exhibit is definitely worth seeing.
