A Chinese artist, Yang Yonchun has set a new world record for the largest 3D painting. The painting is 24 feet wide and 1200 feet long. Yonchum claims that the work took 20 days for him and his team to complete. Yonchum says that his team worked long hours on the painting, often not knocking off until it was too dark to see. The work is painted on a stretch of walkway at the Nanjing branch of the Communication University of China. Nanjing is one of China’s most picturesque cities. The 2014 Summer Youth Olympics will be taking place in Nanjing this year, and this was part of the inspiration for the painting. The painting was a gift for the games, which are scheduled to take place in August.
Details of the Painting
The painting is very easy on the eyes, representing the most beautiful aspects of the city. Flowing rivers and fields meet artfully crafted skyscrapers within the painting. Mountains and falling stones add a dizzying and surreal feel to the work. Called “Rhythms of Youth,” the painting seeks to combine the real scenery surrounding the pathway with the details of the artwork. Students and other pedestrians have been thrilled by the painting, jumping from painted stone to stone and taking pictures of each other that make it appear as though they are defying gravity. The painting will be open to the public for the next two months leading up to the games.
